K’s romantic and self-celebratory peony boudoir session

K and I have a fun origin story: When I worked in my previous studio in Northeast, I used to rent out the space for others to use, and K reached out to me requesting to rent the studio as a getting ready space on her wedding day. Through this introduction, she learned about my boudoir photography brand and began following my work, knowing that she wanted to do a session eventually when the moment felt right. This spring, when I introduced floral boudoir sessions and shared my enthusiasm to do a peony session, K immediately reached out and told me about the strong connection she has to peonies. When she got married, she had peonies in her wedding bouquet, and she loves the soft color, texture, and strong sense of seasonality peonies hold, transporting K to the fresh feeling of early summer in Minnesota. Needless to say, K knew right away: now is the time to do boudoir!

K went into her boudoir session with the primary intention of doing something beautiful just for herself. She envisioned portraits that captured various aspects of her personality – some romantic, some elegant, some strong and dramatic, and some soft and effortless – and she wanted all of the portraits to have a strong undercurrent of self-love.

K’s boudoir portraits

K began the session wearing a sage green bralette and high waisted bottoms set with delicate lace detailing. Standing in front of the brick wall in my studio, I love how K’s outfit contrasts with the warm hues of the rust and pale yellow bricks, creating a grounded, earthy feeling.

K wore a deep blue cropped cami and high waisted bottoms set next. In this portrait, I love how the sunlight creates warm highlights in her hair and illuminates the intricate lace detailing in the side paneling of her cami and underwear.

K brought this gorgeous black nightie to wear next, with beautiful lace detailing on the back and bottom seam line. Sitting in my gray chair in some portraits and holding a bouquet of peonies in others, all of these portraits have a romantic, elegant, and sensual feeling.

To capture the bright and playful sides of her personality, K wore a blush bra and bottoms set with incredible, colorful embroidery. Holding an overflowing bouquet of peonies, these portraits feel joyful, whimsical, and self-celebratory. K also brought along a meaningful bottle of perfume from her wedding day that we incorporated in a few fine art detail portraits. I’m consistently inspired by the thoughtful clothing items and accessories clients bring to their sessions, and the heartening depth of meaning it brings to portraits.

To end the session, K wrapped up in a bedsheet for a series of implied nude portraits. Standing in front of my silhouette panel, these portraits emanate calm, strong, self-loving energy.
