E’s settled and self-loving boudoir session

E is one of my clients who considered boudoir for many years and waited to schedule a session until it felt right. When E reached out to me, she was in a reflective season of life, able to look back on the past decade or so of her life and feel truly proud of the life she had made for herself and her family. E wanted to schedule a boudoir session as a way of celebrating her body and all that it has done for her, including carrying her babies through their pregnancy journeys and carrying herself through moments of peak and valley. She wanted a quiet moment amidst the bustle of life to look at herself with gratitude and love.

During our planning session, E emphasized the importance of authenticity. She is not a super serious person, so she told me she didn't want her pictures to feel too dramatic or heavy. She wanted them to capture her genuine spirit and lightheartedness. She wanted photographs that would feel at once artsy and effortless, serene and celebratory. During the boudoir session, E brought an energy of inner joy and peaceful strength that shone through all of her portraits.

CREATING AN AUTHENTIC WARDROBE

E shared with me that she is not a "lacy lingerie person," and she brought several bra and underwear sets that felt authentic to her style. She paired her favorite pair of jeans with a white mesh bralette set, which photographed beautifully against the warm texture of the brick wall in my studio. She also wore a seaglass-green bra and bottoms set with lovely geometric details that fulfilled her intention to feel both subtly sexy and easy-going. She brought a classic black lingerie set from home that she paired with a cozy sweater from my studio layering wardrobe, and she ended her session with several implied and fine art nude portraits.

REFLECTIONS AFTER THE REVEAL

After the session, E described the impact of seeing herself anew through a lens of self-love. “I feel like I was able to look at myself in new ways. Alyssa encouraged me to look at myself as a friend when I was looking at my photos for the first time, and it allowed me to see myself without the judgment that is usually present. It’s not often that you get to see yourself in such a positive and beautiful light.”
