Priya’s joyful, self-assured, and sensual boudoir session

Priya’s boudoir session was a long time coming. She and I began planning her session several years ago. She lives outside of the country, so after much coordination, anticipation, and a few unexpected travel complications, Priya finally was able to make it to my studio this spring!

Priya brought so much vision, joy, and energy into her photoshoot. She wanted her portraits to feel confident and strong– reflecting the authentic groundedness she felt in this season of life. Priya is a naturally upbeat person, and she wanted her playfulness and levity to shine through. She also wanted to balance this levity with portraits that felt sensual, sexy, and artful.

After the session, Priya shared how empowering it felt to celebrate herself through visual art. “This boudoir experience allowed me to just be myself, entirely as I am, and see that in a material form through the images I now get to take home with me and flip through anytime I want to feel radiant and happy with who I am, who I've become, and who I certainly will become.”

PRIYA’S WARDROBE & PORTRAITS

Priya started the session wearing a favorite red dress of hers, which added an incredible pop of color and vibrancy into the studio. I love when clients wear a favorite article of clothing during their photoshoot, as the joy of wearing something you love always shines through in the portraits. She stands upright and confident in some portraits, and in others she relaxes on a chair, emanating an energy of peacefulness and ease.

In line with a more classic boudoir style, Priya also brought one of her favorite bodysuits that had soft purple and black lace detailing– an outfit she described feeling very herself in. I photographed her sitting up and lying down on the spacious window seat in my studio. Some of these portraits feel happy and self-loving, while others feel dramatic and powerful as Priya’s poses create strong lines and body angles.

To finish the session, Priya wore a scalloped lace robe from my studio layering wardrobe. We played around with a few contrasting backgrounds for these portraits. Standing in front of my silhouette panel, light shining through the sheer fabric of the robe, Priya looks joyful and self-assured. Priya also loved the idea of including some artsy, figure detail portraits into her session, so I captured her in front of my black backdrop board stretching her hands above her head as well as sitting on a stool gazing at the ground. These portraits hold so much movement and grace. With the morning sunlight softening the black backdrop behind Priya, she emanates grounded, sensual, self-loving energy.
