“A’s” effortless, epic, self-loving outdoor boudoir session at Tettegouche State Park

“A” is a past client of mine who reached out to me about doing a second boudoir session (ahhh my favorite thing)! Her poised, artistic first boudoir session was part of the “In Their Own Skin” series. “A” is such a lovely, kind, warm person, and I was absolutely thrilled to get the chance to work with her again!

Whenever I work with clients multiple times (which is pretty common! It’s such a joy to photograph clients over and over during unique seasons of their life and I have many clients who come back every year or two) the question I love to explore together is how they’re feeling during the current chapter of their life and how they want their portraits to reflect that. I really want each session’s portraits to feel unique and powerful; I want them to capture what’s different about the client between each season of life.

When we spoke about doing a second boudoir session together, “A” loved the idea of doing it outdoors. She has a really strong connection with nature and spends a lot of time hiking and exploring the beauty around her. As we reflected on how she wanted her portraits to feel, “A” kept coming back to a sense of confident, dramatic energy. She noticed that the portraits from her first boudoir session that she currently feels most drawn to are those that felt really artistic, cool, and grounded. She liked the idea of mixing more feminine and dramatic portraits with others that would feel more androgynous and strong -- overall, a really epic sense of energy! She also loves black and white portraits, so I planned to mix a lot of those in.

“A’s” outdoor boudoir session

“A” chose to do her boudoir session at Tettegouche State Park on the north shore, a place that she’s visited before and absolutely loves. Tettegouche has a few different landscapes embedded in it -- forest, a river, even waterfalls! -- which allowed us to get a beautiful variety of backgrounds in her portraits.

We began “A’s” session by taking portraits along a little winding trail. “A” wore this really fun black bodysuit with lace detailing, which she layered with a caramel-colored leather jacket. I love how the browns in her jacket pick up on the earth tones of the nature around her! The light in the trees felt a little autumnal, and there were a few golden leaves fluttering in the trees. These photos feel really cool and confident to me -- “A’s” body language feels super grounded.

As we wandered along the trail, “A” transitioned her wardrobe and put on one of the white flowy shirts from my studio layering wardrobe. We found a small grove of birch trees that “A” felt a deep connection with and took a few pictures there. These portraits feel self-loving and confident (major goddess vibes!) while still feeling organic and natural. I think nature takes the show here in the best way possible!

The last spot we took portraits in was this really lovely little waterfall and pool. It was surrounded by pine trees on one side and a rocky beach on the other. It felt like the most special, magical space.

“A” had brought along a black bra and bottom set (which she used in her first session with me as well -- such a fun detail of continuity!). She also wore a black lace robe from my studio layering wardrobe, which felt super dramatic and elegant when paired with her set. In other portraits, she wrapped herself a piece of pale turquoise silk that evoked a really effortless, organic vibe.

“A” was comfortable climbing up onto the rock formations a bit and wading into the water, so we captured a few really incredible photos of her in and around the waterfall. I love these portraits so much! Some of them feel a little tender; others feel totally epic. I think they really capture “A’s” sense of inspiration, connection with nature, and love for herself.

“A,” what an incredible delight it was to work with you again! I am so grateful that we got to create these portraits together. I absolutely love the creativity and beautiful energy that you brought to the session, and it was an honor to photograph your connection with nature. Thank you so much for trusting me with these special portraits!
