A tender, organic motherhood boudoir session for M

M is a past client who I photographed several years ago for a boudoir session. Since then, M has been through several big life changes including getting married, moving and living in multiple places, and most recently, having a baby! Wanting to document these impactful chapters in her life, especially becoming a mom, M reached out to me to schedule a motherhood boudoir session. While M is trying to keep her baby’s digital footprint minimal, she gave me permission to share the more anonymous baby portraits from her session below.

M’s BOUDOIR VISION

During our planning session, M described wanting her portraits to feel organic and tender– capturing the groundedness she feels as a mom as well as the intimate bond she has with her baby. She hoped to strike a balance between the artfulness of boudoir portraits and the sweetness of motherhood. M envisioned her portraits having a ”goddess-earth-mother meets dove commercial” vibe, which I absolutely loved.

A NOTE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHING BABIES & KIDDOS

I love and have a lot of experience working with kiddos. I photograph babies often with my other brand, but it is a rare treat to get to incorporate a little one into my boudoir studio, so I was really excited when M scheduled this session. For motherhood sessions, I always encourage clients to move through the day at the pace of your baby. I make sure there is spaciousness in the day for clients to feed their babies, change their diapers, and just let their kids be kids.

PORTRAITS OF M & HER BABY

M arrived with her baby in the morning, ready to begin. She opted for the DIY hair/makeup route, which felt aligned with her intentions for the day to feel natural and organic. We took the photoshoot at a relaxed pace, capturing portraits of M playing with, feeding, and snuggling her baby. In all of these portraits, you can feel the loving attunement M has for her baby. It was so special to witness M's grounded energy as a mom, and the sweetness of her little one feeling so loved and held in M’s arms.

I love the close up details in these portraits below- the precious little toes and the tiny hands reaching gently up to their mama.

The portraits of M snuggling and then feeding her baby skin-to-skin feel so gentle and intimate. (They also really capture that dove commercial vibe!)
