Suzanne’s Relaxed, Cozy Boudoir Portraits

Suzanne wanted to do a boudoir session for herself to celebrate herself. She had a clear vision of portraits that were “sexy but natural,” with some really cozy and everyday vibes - like holding a coffee mug while wrapped in a sweater. She brought a black lace camisole and bottoms paired with a cardigan, a soft grey lounge set, a sports bra and leggings, and a pair of earthy green bottoms to go with a blanket I keep in the studio.

Suzanne loves the look of a blowout in her hair and wanted loose curls with a voluminous feel and to play up her eyes with a smokey eye effect. Kelsey from the Hair Badassery made Suzanne’s vision a reality and styled her hair and makeup. Before her boudoir session day, Suzanne talked about hoping she would feel relaxed during her session - so she could both show her true self in her portraits and feel like herself as she moved through her session.

One of my goals as a boudoir photographer is to hold space for people. It is important to me that when you come into the studio, you feel relaxed, comfortable, and at home. Feeling safe and comfortable and authentic is important in sessions, because then in your portraits you will come across looking like yourself. This goal is why I have structured sessions the way I have. Everything is at a slow place, so it feels relaxed and low-pressure. In this supportive environment we can create special moments that feel beautiful and true, and I think that is how boudoir should be.

Suzanne was also excited about the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge herself as a way to say: “I like who I am right now.” There is such immense power in declaring: “I like myself.” Boudoir is a way to do that for so many of my clients. The experience of boudoir is often much more than a photoshoot, and it can really be about giving yourself the space to experience self-love and self-celebration - and that in itself is empowering.

Suzanne, thank you for taking a day to celebrate and acknowledge and appreciate yourself with a boudoir session. This is so powerful! I had so much fun spending the day with you and love all the self-loving, everyday, cozy vibes that came through in your portraits.
